Immediate Implants / Same-Day

Immediate Implants in Dublin – Same-Day Tooth Replacement

Immediate implants (also called same-day implants) allow you to have a tooth extracted and a dental implant placed in the same appointment. In suitable cases, a temporary tooth can even be attached immediately, so you never leave our clinic with a gap in your smile.

At Empire Dental Clinic in Dublin 1, we offer immediate implant placement for suitable candidates, reducing treatment time and the number of appointments needed.

Dental Implant: €600 per step (Step 1: Implant placement + Step 2: Crown fitting) • Temporary tooth available for front teeth

How Does the Implant Procedure Work?

A dental implant procedure is completed in 2 steps:

1

Implant Placement (€600)

The titanium implant screw is surgically placed into your jawbone. This procedure takes approximately 30 minutes under local anaesthesia.

2

Crown Fitting (€600)

After 4-6 months, once the implant has integrated with your bone, we attach the abutment and your permanent crown. This gives you the actual tooth on the implant.

For front teeth: Don’t worry – we can arrange a temporary tooth to cover the gap during the 4-6 month healing period, so you’re never without a visible tooth.

What Are Immediate Implants?

With immediate implants, the implant is placed immediately after tooth extraction – in the same appointment. This is different from the traditional approach where you wait 3-4 months after extraction for the socket to heal before placing an implant.

Immediate Implants - Same Day Tooth Replacement

Benefits of immediate placement:

  • Fewer appointments and shorter overall treatment time
  • One surgical procedure instead of two
  • Preserves bone and gum tissue
  • Possibility of same-day temporary tooth

However, immediate implants aren’t suitable for everyone. Factors like infection, bone quality, and the reason for extraction will determine if you’re a candidate.

Immediate Implants vs Delayed Implants

Feature Immediate Implant Delayed Implant
Timing Same day as extraction 3-4 months after extraction
Surgical procedures 1 2
Total treatment time 4-6 months 7-10 months
Bone preservation Better Good
Suitable for all cases No (selected cases) Yes (most cases)

Who Is a Candidate for Immediate Implants?

Immediate implants may be suitable if:

  • The tooth being extracted has no active infection
  • There is adequate bone around the extraction site
  • The extraction is straightforward without significant trauma
  • You are in good general health
  • You are a non-smoker or can quit during healing

If immediate placement isn’t suitable, don’t worry – a delayed implant after proper healing often gives excellent results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a dental implant cost?

A dental implant is done in 2 steps, each costing €600. Step 1 is the implant placement (€600), and Step 2 is the crown fitting after 4-6 months (€600). Total cost is €1,200 for a complete single tooth implant.

How long does implant placement take?

The implant placement procedure takes approximately 30 minutes under local anaesthesia. It's a straightforward procedure and most patients report minimal discomfort.

What happens to the gap during the 4-6 month healing period?

For front teeth, we can arrange a temporary tooth to cover the gap, so you're never without a visible tooth. For back teeth, the gap is usually not noticeable.

Is immediate implant placement always possible?

No, immediate implants are only suitable for selected cases. Factors like infection, bone quality, and the complexity of extraction determine if immediate placement is appropriate. If not suitable, a delayed approach after healing gives excellent results.

Is the implant procedure painful?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so you won't feel pain during surgery. Afterwards, mild soreness is normal for a few days and can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers. Most patients return to work the next day.

Why is there a 4-6 month wait between steps?

This waiting period allows the implant to fuse with your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. This creates a stable, strong foundation for your permanent crown. Rushing this process could compromise the implant's success.

How long do dental implants last?

The implant itself (titanium screw) can last a lifetime with proper care. The crown typically lasts 10-15 years before needing replacement. Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene are essential.
